Lost Wax Casting workshop: from studio to finished rings

Have you ever wondered what the process of making a lost wax cast ring is? I thought I’d give you a peek into the process once the carving is done, from the wax models (video and photo 1). After they’ve gone to the caster, the rings come back unfinished (photo 2) and have to be filed and polished (slightly blurry photo3). The key with making anything with wax is that every scratch, nick, or impression is going to show up after the piece has been cast into metal. Some people embrace that element and produce highly textured pieces. Anyone who wants a highly polished piece has to devote a lot of time and attention to smoothing out the wax model before it gets cast. No matter which approach a person takes, the results are amazing!
